RA Street Numbers
What are they? A nationwide plan for the Rural Addressing
(RA) of properties implemented in accordance with the Australian Standard
AS/NZS 4819:2003. It provides an orderly system of setting rural street
address numbers that since 1996 has progressively replaced Lot and RMB
numbers.
How does Rural Addressing (RA) work? The RA system is
based on the actual distance of the vehicle driveway to your property from
where your road starts, even if the road starts in another locality. In
the Gosford LGA even numbers are on the right and odd numbers are on the
left. The distance is measured to the nearest 10 metres. For example, number
10 is on the right hand side 100 metres from the start of the road and
number 511 is 5.11 kilometres from the start of the road on the left hand
side. (Please note: in Wyong LGA the even numbers are
generally on the left hand side and odd numbers are on the right hand side,
excepting those roads shared with Gosford LGA where the standard will prevail).
Why not stick with the old RMB system? The RMB street
number system (the four digit numbers usually starting with a “2” or “3”)
has become very confusing as a means of locating a property. In most locations
it is no longer sequential and does not help to find a property.
Who does the RA Street Number System help? It is a useful
and logical means of addressing which allows emergency services (e.g. ambulance,
police, fire brigade), mail and courier delivery persons to find you easily.
It is also an easily understood system by visitors to your locality.
Who determines the RA Street numbers? Gosford City and
Wyong Shire Councils are the responsible authorities for determining street
numbers under the RA system. Contact the Councils directly if you need
confirmation of your correct RA street number.
What does it cost? Gosford and Wyong Councils undertake
the implementation of the RA system as a service to their ratepayers and
there is no charge for the confirmation of your correct street number.
