February 2009 - Peats Ridge Fire

The RFS held another public information meeting on the Peats Ridge fire at the Mangrove Mountain Community Hall, Cnr Wisemans Ferry Rd & Waratah Rd, Mangrove Mountain on Sunday, 15 February, at 3pm.

The map below was used to illustrate the extent of the fire so far and the approximate position of a containment line that was being bulldozed:

The containment line runs approximately due East from Nardoo Road.

Gosford RFS published an updated Latest News at 3:30pm 11th February, including:

The Peats Ridge fire has been contained and is now listed at Patrol status. This bushfire has been burning in the Brisbane Water National Park since Saturday afternoon and has burnt out about approximately 280 hectares.

Weather conditions have assisted over the last 48 hours with approximately 20mm of rain falling on the fire effected area. Firefighters from National Parks & Wildlife and a light helicopter patrolled the fire today. Smoke is still visible in the area however the threat of fire escaping containment is considered to be minimal. Containment lines consist of mineral earth dozer trails and a fire retardant line previously laid by fixed wing aircraft.

Firefighters will continue to patrol the area over the next few days.

The weather for the next few days is expected to be similar to todays with light rain & drizzle and temperatures in the mid 20's........

There was a the public meeting held at Peats Ridge at 9am Monday 9 February.

There were three speakers at the meeting (l to r), George Slennett (RFS), Peter Campbell (MEPCC) and Paul Anderson (DPI) to provide information to those attending and answer questions.

Peter Campbell took the opportunity to promote the Telephone Tree and this website, and encourage those who had not yet registered to do so. Interest was expressed in the Telephone Tree concept from as far away as Tamworth and Adelaide, including radio and the press.
